Mechanical Redesign For Kingdom Light Church and Function Centre

The Kingdom Light Church project in Cockburn includes a new church and function centre development. Froster Engineering was engaged to review and redesign the original mechanical services solution, delivering improved performance and greater long-term value.

We enjoy being brought into meaningful community projects like this, especially when there’s an opportunity to add value and rethink existing designs.

Replacing the original design

The original mechanical design specified evaporative cooling paired with gas-fired convector heating. While common, this solution raised a few concerns:

  • High upfront capital cost
  • Significant ongoing running costs due to gas consumption
  • Limited comfort, particularly in larger internal spaces like the church hall and function areas, where evaporative cooling is less effective

Froster’s solution

Our revised mechanical design focused on cost-effectiveness, comfort, and energy efficiency.

Key elements of the new design include:

  • Roof-mounted packaged air conditioning systems with economy cycle operation for the main hall and function areas
  • VAV ducted DX systems using Actron Ultima units for the office and administration areas
  • Ductwork in entry and function spaces designed to enhance and work with the building’s architecture, maintaining both function and visual appeal

This project is a strong example of how Froster Engineering can help rethink existing HVAC strategies, ensuring a better outcome for both the client and the people using the space every day.
